Lifelines: Tiny Paintings by Teresa Kay
The idea of vibrational energy has always intrigued me…and these tiny, energetic drawings always begin much like the wave patterns of an EKG or EEG. They emerge in the way psychographic or automatic writing might and reveal a type of mark-making that began with my late husband's illness and death from a brain tumor. These little marks seem to morph, almost on their own, into tiny landscapes and cityscapes.
I think part of my interest in the diminutive also has to do with my own shrinking world – with loss and the beauty that remains…and perhaps with the underlying biology—heartbeat, brainwave— that binds us. In the end, these tiny drawings are reminiscent of haikus in a larger poetic world.
