Wall tiles are made from a Raku clay that gives it it's distinctive natural look. After the clay is prepared, burlap is used to create it's texture. Then, the designs are hand drawn by C. C. Lee by using sculpting tools. After it is bisque fired, it is meticulously hand glazed by his wife, Shui Ping Lee. Then, they go through a special dyeing process and are fired in the kiln up to 1900 degrees. Each hand made tile is approximately 7.5” x 16”.
